• Obedience to parents is a major duty in Islam that is mentioned along with the worship of Allah in many verses of the Quran and hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

• Obedience to parents means to respect them, to speak to them kindly, to fulfill their needs, to follow their reasonable commands, and to pray for them in this life and the hereafter.

• Obedience to parents brings the pleasure of Allah and His rewards, while disobedience to parents incurs His wrath and punishment.

• Obedience to parents has some exceptions, such as when they ask their children to commit sins, to associate partners with Allah, or to harm themselves or others. In such cases, the children must not obey their parents, but they must still treat them with kindness and compassion.

• Obedience to parents is especially due to the mother, who has more rights and deserves more gratitude than the father, because of her sacrifices and hardships in bearing and raising the children.
